Laser Hair Removal FAQ’s

General Questions

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal uses concentrated light energy to target the pigment in hair follicles. The light converts to heat, damaging the follicle and preventing future hair growth, while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed.

Is laser hair removal safe?

Yes—when performed with medical-grade technology by trained professionals, laser hair removal is safe and effective for most skin types. At Body London, we carry out thorough consultations and patch tests to ensure suitability.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal significantly reduces hair growth long-term, though results vary by individual. Most clients experience up to 80–90% permanent reduction after a full course, with occasional top-up sessions recommended.

Treatment Process

How many sessions will I need?

On average, 6–10 sessions are recommended for optimal results, spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Some clients may require additional sessions depending on hair type, growth cycles, and treatment area.

How long does each session take?

Smaller areas (such as the underarms or upper lip) can take just 10–15 minutes, while larger areas (such as full legs or back) may take up to an hour.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Most clients describe the sensation as a light snap or warmth against the skin. Our advanced technology features cooling systems to ensure treatments are as comfortable as possible.

Can I have laser hair removal anywhere on the body?

Yes—laser can safely treat most areas, including the face, underarms, arms, legs, bikini line, chest, back, and stomach.

Do I need a patch test?

Yes—a patch test is required at least 24–48 hours before your first session to check your skin’s response and ensure the safest treatment plan.

Suitability & Preparation

Is laser hair removal suitable for all skin types?

Modern laser technology can treat a wide range of skin types. However, very light blonde, red, or grey hairs may not respond well, as the laser targets pigment in the follicle.

Can I have laser if I have a tan?

It’s best to avoid sun exposure or tanning (including fake tan) immediately before treatment, as this can affect the laser’s accuracy and increase sensitivity. That being said our machine is fully capable of treating tanned skin so we can always adjust the settings accordingly for your laser hair removal session.

How should I prepare for my session?

Shave the area 24 hours before treatment. Avoid waxing, threading, or plucking in the weeks before, as the follicle must remain intact for the laser to work.

Can I have laser hair removal if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

Laser hair removal is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding as a precaution, even though there is no clinical evidence of harm.

Aftercare & Results

What should I expect after a session?

You may experience mild redness or sensitivity, similar to a light sunburn, which usually settles within a few hours. Aloe vera or cooling gels can help soothe the skin.

What aftercare should I follow?

Avoid hot baths, saunas, exercise, and sun exposure for at least 24–48 hours. Always use a high SPF on treated areas exposed to the sun.
